Shot on iPhone film Midnight is a trick to get more customers | Random Reviews # 007

I watched ‘Midnight’ on YouTube because that’s where it is published and then I watched it again. This film could have been made in any phone, actually, and still look nearly as good. The purpose from Apple seems to be to convey to their prospective customers that iPhone is great for night photography and cinematography. Now, the phone is good, everyone knows that but this film does not convey this message fully because of the trick which filmmakers did in this film which is pretty noticeable.

The night shots are filled with lights, in fact, neon lights, multi color lights so the whole night issue was eliminated using tons of lights. Although iPhone has functionality that reduces grains and produces great pictures including amazing auto focus, one has to follow the filmmaking principals to make a good film. You either imagine a movie, write it down and then calculate budget based on what you saw in your mind, or you check what you have and then make a film within that budget. In this, the filmmakers had all the budget in the world from Apple apart from the camera which had to be iPhone.

The direction and screenplay are just amazing. Character design and visuals are captivating. The credit scene includes BTS in which we can see that they used all Hollywood resources apart from the camera, and it’s not a film shot on iPhone, it is shot on iPhones. We see cameramen with multiple iPhones to create multiple shots which can be used postproduction.

These ‘Shot on iPhone’ films are definitely inspiration for new filmmakers but remember these are just films like any other films, but these films are such that do not require professional cinema camera because the shots planned are planned considering the limitations of iPhone camera.

If the film is good, it does not matter if it was shot on iPhone or a million-dollar cinema camera. If the content is good, people will watch it.

The good thing about reviewing a short film published on YouTube is that I can just show you the whole film. Enjoy!
