Being a Polyglot

If you have not heard the term ‘Polyglot’ before, then you will wonder, ‘What is a Polyglot?’. The real question here should be ‘Who is considered polyglot?’ because it is a title for a human who knows more than few languages and is interested in learning more languages. I would say even a person who is interested in learning languages should also start calling themselves polyglot, so they stay inspired and move forward with learning and implementing. The word itself feels very sophisticated and inspiring – Polyglot. It’s like having a degree or a skill that you are known for. It’s like there are people who fight crime as their job but then there are detectives in movies who do it more charmingly.

If you know 3 languages then you are not there yet but if you have added 4th and have a plan to add more, then you are a polyglot. Being polyglot means you are interested in the whole world, not just your village or country or that other country everyone aspires to visit or live. Polyglots are global citizens who respect every language and culture. They want to live the world as it is by changing with the world rather than pushing the world to change for them.

It is important to know that Polyglot is not somebody who know certain number of languages and then stopped. Polyglot is the one who keeps adding more languages and keeps improving the ones he or she knows.

I have mastered 3 languages. I am level C in them (If you know level A, B and C). I am learning French, Spanish and Korean. Well, currently I am working on French more and will work on the other two more in the near future. Tell me what languages you know and if we can improve our languages skills by regular chit chats and ‘letters’. I will write more about the languages I know and the languages I aspire to learn in this series so keep visiting.
