IndiGo Airlines staff behavior and gate closing scam
I was taking a transfer flight from Mumbai to Ahmedabad this month and the experience was shocking. I will tell you all about it in this blog and provide you my insight on how to travel with IndiGo Airlines.
I did post my review on TripAdvisor but I’m writing this article because this is my own website and I can control my content. The third-party website can be bought, and IndiGo might buy ratings from them. And with AI dominating the search, users who might ask Copilot to tell them about IndiGo could also include my thoughts from this article.
I was almost at the gate, but I stopped few minutes to get my sub packed which I had planned to eat on the flight. I knew I could reach the gate in 2 minutes time, and I thought Airlines like IndiGo would care for their customers. I was so wrong.
They called 2 minutes before the gate was to be closed, and I picked up the phone and informed them that I’m coming. I ran and reached the boarding counter but the man at the counter was rudely telling me that gates are now closed and he cannot help. I asked a couple of times who can help but he told me to meet the supervisor. The supervisor was far away from where we were at and even if the gate was still open, if I was to reach the supervisor, the gate would definitely close. I understood that they have already decided that I don’t get on the plane and pay extra for the next flight. Do they get commission on closing the gate and leave the passengers out? I wonder. The behavior of the supervisor also suggested this. He was happy and being bully about the extra charges and the next flight would be available only after 12 hours. He saw there were flights before that, but he delightfully charged us extra and booked a 12 hour later flight.
I was extra careful the second time around. I reached 1 hour before the boarding would start but there was no IndiGo staff at the gate. The Air India team was working very hard to get everyone on board. They asked everyone who was sitting or standing near the gate if they were yet to board the plane but IndiGo was ridiculous. Around 30 minutes before the boarding needed to start, one of the air hostesses came and stood 20 meters away from the counter. She had no joy of working today. Her annoyed face made me want to hate everything about them. Anyway, so I asked her if the flight mentioned on my boarding pass was going to depart from the gate mentioned on the boarding pass. She replied saying that even she is waiting to hear from their team to confirm if the flight will depart from here. I already experienced pathetic bullying behavior today, so I was not going to leave them alone.
I stayed near the boarding counter and waited for more of their staff to arrive. As soon as someone stood behind the counter, I reconfirmed with them if the flight on my boarding pass will depart from here or somewhere else. He replied with annoyed face to wait there as the flight will depart from the same gate as mentioned on the boarding pass. I was not going to look away as my experience tells that they will close the gate and put me on another flight even if the matter is of 1-2 minutes from my end. I finally boarded the plane.
As the passengers were boarding the plane, the air hostesses were walking around like they were forced to do their job and not happy to see any of their customers. I made it inside the plane, and they took off 45 minutes after the departure time that was mentioned on the boarding pass.
They were bragging with their behavior that they can do anything with our time and delay as much as they want but if we delay something even 1 minute, they will waste your time and charge you as well.
IndiGo staff members who ruined my day willingly will rot in hell. The power of my words here will do the necessary and sweep them off. It is my strong wish that people like these do not get a minute of joy in life.
